SILENT AUCTION

WHY WE'RE GETTING INVOLVED

ABOUT REBUILDING WINE COUNTRY:  HABITAT FOR HUMANITY SONOMA
(FOR ALL WINE COUNTRY, WILD FIRE VICTIMS)

Rebuild Wine Country is for long-term giving. Immediate needs are being met by our fantastic community non-profit partners already. This fund is about the bigger picture in the weeks, months, and years to come, protecting economic recovery for those without a roof over their head. With these funds, our fiscal sponsor Habitat for Humanity of Sonoma County will distribute aid to sister chapters in all affected counties to repair and rebuild homes for those who need it most.

Your donation...

  • Benefits affected families in wine country as a whole by rebuilding homes
  • Goes 100% to the charity - no fees are imposed by YouCaring (vs 5% or more on GoFundMe)
  • Is tax deductible - Habitat for Humanity of Sonoma County is our 501(c)(3) fiscal sponsor
  • Has no administrative costs - all management of this fundraiser is executed by wine industry professionals

Inspired by the immediate outpouring of local efforts, donations to Rebuild Wine Country are dedicated specifically to rebuilding homes and spurring recovery efforts. We are partnering with local Habitat for Humanity affiliates to immediately impact the communities most in need. Volunteers will work with discounted materials to rebuild and repair homes of those who need it most, stretching every dollar contributed.

As of Friday October 13, only four days after the fires began, over 20,000 people have been evacuated, over 3,500 structures and homes have been lost and over 170,000 acres have burned. Overall, the fires are not currently contained and Cal Fire is estimating they may continue to threaten lives for weeks to come. The need for help will continue to grow.

Donations will continue to give back to the lives directly affected by the deadly fires in Northern California for years to come.

The Rebuild Wine Country fund was started by a group of local wine industry professionals as they watched their families, friends and colleagues grieve losses that often are only seen as headlines in the news. Yet the tragedy was at home, in their vineyards, wineries and neighborhoods. There have been many news reports of vineyards, wineries and estates burning, but more urgent is the fact that homes have been destroyed of the people who support the community around those properties. From the vineyard and winery, to the supermarket and hospital, there is a desperate need for funding to repair and rebuild homes of the people making wine country go ‘round. Every dollar given will be put to, specifically, to rebuilding the the homes of those people.

This is a call to action; it is your opportunity to help those in need during a time when it is difficult to know exactly how to help. Thank you so much for your support of our beloved extended wine country community!

moragaestate.jpg

MORAGA ESTATE

Moraga Vineyards is a wine growing estate in the Santa Monica Mountains at an elevation of 600 to 900 feet, five miles from the Pacific Ocean in the Los Angeles community of Bel Air.  From the care of each individual vine, to the selection and blending processes, to the hand labeling of each bottle, every effort is taken to produce wine of distinctive style and quality.  Our focus is to create the highest quality wine while preserving the essence of place. With the experience of each vintage, we have been able to improve our understanding of the ripening patterns of the vineyards. We selectively pick from vines that have come to full maturity on the basis of taste. Ultimately, it is all about flavor and tannin development.

Hanzell.jpg

HANZELL VINEYARDS

Hanzell Vineyards is a California wine producer located just outside the town of Sonoma. The winery was founded by James David Zellerbach(future United States Ambassador to Italy) who acquired 200 acres in the Mayacamas Mountains in 1943 and began planting Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in 1953. At the time, the entire state of California had fewer than 200 acres planted to Chardonnay.

Hanzel would go on to pioneer in the California several winemaking techniques that would become associated with the style of California Chardonnay including the use of barrel-agingmalolactic fermentation, and the use of inert gases and anaerobic winemaking. Hanzell was also among the first vineyards to plant the Wente Clone of Chardonnay.

mauritson.jpg

MAURITSON WINES

Winemaking may have been the logical evolution in our family’s long history of farming in the Dry Creek Valley, however, it took an absence from the valley and attention to those inner voices that led our winery founder Clay Mauritson back to these same vineyards that he spent planting, tending and picking as a teen. What he came to realize was that he already had a lifetime of understanding about the subtleties and strengths of each micro-climate within the Dry Creek, Rockpile and Alexander Valleys.

rafanelli.jpg

A. RAFANELLI WINERY

Since the early 1900’s the Rafanelli family has been growing grapes and making wine in the Dry Creek Valley.  Four generations later they are still keeping with the tradition, growing premium grapes and producing world class wines.  The winery is small, and being family owned and operated, production is limited, with the focus on quality not quantity!  The family prides themselves on producing consistently exceptional wines year in and year out, specializing in some of the finest Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot.

GALLERY 1988

Since it’s opening in 2004, Gallery1988 has become one of the nation’s most talked about art galleries. Sitting on the world famous shopping mecca of Melrose Ave (now at 7308 Melrose), G1988 was opened by California natives Katie Sutton and Jensen Karp, and was the first pop-culture focused art gallery in the world, as well as a premiere venue to witness the rise of emerging artists before they break.

erinhanson-winecountry.jpg

ERIN HANSON / ARTIST

ERIN HANSON is a life-long painter, beginning her study of oils as a young child.  Her passion for natural beauty is seen in her work as she transforms vistas familiar and rare into stunning interpretations of bold color, playful rhythms and raw emotional impact. Her frequent forays into National Parks and other recesses of nature include backpacking expeditions, rock climbing, and photo safaris.  Hanson's unique painting style has become known as Open Impressionism, with hundreds of collectors eagerly anticipating her work.  As an iconic, driving force in the rebirth of contemporary impressionism, Hanson is quickly recognized as a prolific, modern master.

kyiomi.jpg

Kiyomi Artist/Qigong Instructor

Kiyomi is a native Southern Californian of Japanese descent. She graduated from California State University Fullerton with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. She also took life drawing classes at the Animation Institute in Hollywood, California and at Associates in Art in Sherman Oaks, California, where she studied under master instructors from Disney, Warner Brothers and DreamWorks corporations.

Kiyomi considers herself a representational artist and describes her art as “a reflection of herself, a glimpse into her psyche, and a source for others to discover something new about themselves.”  Themes include nature, ritual, spirituality, love, energy and dreams. The common denominator of her pieces are rhythmic movement, color & organic forms. Using various types of media, she orchestrates layers of deep colors & organic shapes for a multi-dimensional effect.  Her influences include indigenous art from various cultures as well as surreal art from past & present.

Kiyomi has skills in many forms of visual art: drawing, painting, jewelry-making, photography, video, crafts & even performance art. When she paints live with a band on stage, she interprets the energy from the music through Dancing Qigong & transfers it into live painting. Video projection is usually added to the mix. All three entities (band, artist & video jockeys) perform  improvisationally. Kiyomi had the pleasure of having her work on digital billboards for a public art display across the country in 12 states from New York to California and in-between.

Her latest pieces are called “Moving Multimedia Mood Plaques.” They are a feast for the senses, because they include layers of acrylic plastic with hand-pulled prints, paint and video with sound. With layers of video combined with metallic & iridescent touches, the pieces seem to evolve and transform before your eyes. Viewers from all ages and cultures tend to be mesmerized by this growing series of work. Kiyomi is creating on a full time basis, and is exhibiting art on a domestic and international level. She is currently adding her creative touch to a TV show coming to a screen near you, called "The Juice Bar." Her art has been displayed and sold in New York City,  Los Angeles, Italy and the United Kingdom.

jeff.jpg

JEFF GILLETTE / ARTIST

Jeff Gillette’s paintings examine the aesthetic structures and visual patterns of human settlement, specifically that of shantytown style slums in India and South America. To the artist, there is something ineffable behind the obviously chaotic and desperate appearance of these places — a universality of human spirit and a strange beauty which comes out of the necessity and raw honesty of the will to survive. Despite the seriousness of his observations, Gillette sees ironic and amusing juxtapositions that occur when Disney, corporate logos, and pop icons from consumer culture shows up as building blocks of shanty settlement construction.. His works reflect these ironies as well as add a playful dimension to art historical relationships.
If you went to the LA Art Show  in 2016, you may have seen the Juxtapoz Littletopia installation by Gillette, known for his "Dismaland" collaboration with Banksy. "Desert Debris Dismaland Castle" at Littletopia is the artist’s reimagined homage to capitalism. “To me, it’s symbolic. Disneyland is anything you want to attribute to it – the American way or Western culture or capitalism or childhood, but mostly it’s an attractive graphic to me,” states Gillette.

Brian_lee.jpg

BRIAN LEE / ARTIST

Los Angeles native Brian Lee, aka bleehouse, is an artist devoted to the exploration of color and form.  Primarily working in two dimensional mediums such as acrylic, oil and watercolor, his artwork is informed by both his academic studies in Art History as well as his passions for the culinary and musical arts.   Though Lee's intimacy with the LA art world began as an assistant to fine artist Justin Bua; his entrepreneurial experiences opening and curating Hold Up Art (2009-2012) and Art Major (2017-Present) ultimately shaped his current perspectives and opinions on the industry.  Bleehouse Studios, though still in its infancy, is Lee's newest ambition and aims to leverage the power of art to better the immediate community around us all.  Stay tuned at www.bleehouse.org, and follow bleehouse (instagram), to see more artwork.

elizabeth_orleans.jpg

ELIZABETH ORLEANS / ARTIST

Elizabeth N. Orleans was born in Philadelphia, PA. She earned a MFA in ceramics at California College of the Arts (in Oakland, CA) and a BFA (in ceramics) at Tulane University (in New Orleans, LA). She has also studied at Tyler School of Art, Clayworks, Penland, the Oregon School of Art and Craft and the Studio Art Centers International in Italy.  Elizabeth has also taught since 1995 at various institutions, including Alameda, Richmond and Merritt Colleges.

In 2004 Orleans was chosen to create a site specific installation of thousands of ceramic elements at the MOCA in Santa Rosa, CA and was awarded a grant from Bank of America to create the work.  It was featured in Ceramics Monthly magazine and was shown at the Museum of Craft and Folk Art in SF, CA and at the West Hollywood Library in LA, CA.

Moving to Venice Beach, CA, along side the tradition of Southern California ceramic artists Ken Price and Peter Voulkos, Orleans continues to pursue innovation in clay (her chosen medium). Her collisions of geometric and organic forms, often referencing growth, the human body, and abstracted life forms, have drawn comparisons to the work of artists Yayoi Kusama and Louise Bourgeois. Elizabeth also furthers her interest in altering pre-existing spaces by creating architectural interventions that penetrate boundaries and explore movement, change, and the infinite possibility of time.

She has been represented by Royale Projects and Sloane Projects galleries.  Elizabeth is devoted to conceiving challenging work and continue her practice.

decamille.jpg

DE CAMILLE / ARTIST

As a native Angeleno, De Camille has always been inspired by the intricate layers of our identities; our personal and communal experience. Her work is a synthesis of Surrealism and Pop Culture through a dream-like state. Her technique is very layered. It may start with the collaging of a blue print or obscure images to set the scene and create an underlying structure for the work. Her continued experimentation with various mediums creates altered states of texture, including saw dust, egg yolk: tea bags and found objects. There is a sense of the Collector and the traveler in her work, as she studied at the Ecole des Beaux Arts. She takes from the past but updates it through her unique and quirky lens. Her eclectic style and subject matter can create a new dimensional world through the studied detail and naivete of her unique lens.

miro.jpg

Joan Miró i Ferrà / ARTIST

Joan Miró i Ferrà (1893 –1983) was a Spanish paintersculptor, and ceramicist born in Barcelona. A museum dedicated to his work, the Fundació Joan Miró, was established in his native city of Barcelona in 1975, and another, the Fundació Pilar i Joan Miró, was established in his adoptive city of Palma de Mallorca in 1981.
Earning international acclaim, his work has been interpreted as Surrealism, a sandbox for the subconscious mind, a re-creation of the childlike, and a manifestation of Catalan pride. In numerous interviews dating from the 1930s onwards, Miró expressed contempt for conventional painting methods as a way of supporting bourgeois society, and famously declared an "assassination of painting" in favour of upsetting the visual elements of established painting. Miró was also a part of the Dada Movement and a recipient of awards including the 1954 Venice Biennale Grand Prize for Graphic Work, 1958 Guggenheim International Award, & 1980 Gold Medal of Fine Arts, Spain

Growing up in the art materials industry, she met and was influenced by major Los Angeles illustrators including Jake Lee, Neil Boyle and Ren Wicks.
“As an intuitive artist, my artwork comes from within. It grows and takes shape with a mood, a feeling. I feel a spark and find myself guided to the process that will grow my piece. When sculpting, elements of the human body are often incorporated, When painting, I start with a line, a brush swish, a mark. I add elements as needed to bring the piece to life.”
