71Above Restaurant
633 W 5th Street
Los Angeles, CA 90071

Reception + Dinner  /  6:30 PM - 9:30 PM

Enter 71Above - its an experience all by itself.  One of the most beautiful rooms in the world - the bar is full of energy, the view - 2nd to none. The food will be tailored to our wine flights, the wine will be guided by a Master Sommelier - there just to educated and inform us of these special brands. The service at 71Above is close to operating like a clock… all in sync and designed to serve but not overwhelm… we think this is a DO NOT MISS experience. You would have a hard time eating there at this price on your own, through in the 13 wine flight of world class wines and the Master Sommelier and it is a no brainer.

WineLA founder Ian Blackburn strives to create “once in a lifetime activities, every day"…. "we fill buckets for living…bucket list buckets!”

The Restaurant and Skylounge have a Smart Casual dress code. For Gentlemen, jackets are not required, but suggested. Jeans are accepted. Collared shirts and dress shoes are recommended. Women's attire ranges from dresses to skirts, slacks, or jeans with casual or dressy top. Hats, shorts, flip-flops, beach attire, or athletic wear are not permitted. A coat check is available at the host stand on the 71st Floor.

At 950 feet above ground level, 71Above is the highest restaurant west of the Mississippi. Offering elevated modern American cuisine by Chef Vartan Abgaryan, 71Above boasts breathtaking ocean views from Malibu to Laguna Hills, along with spectacular views of the Los Angeles basin and the surrounding mountain ranges.

Fran Kysela, (MS) Master Sommelier

36 years in the wine industry, Fran Kysela is a Legend. He has worked as a wholesale representative, wine steward, national sales director and now as a successful wine importer. In 1989, he received the Master Sommelier (one of 236 in the world) award from the British Court of Master Sommeliers. He passed the tasting half of the Master of Wine exam in 1992. Fran Kysela founded his wine importing & distributing company in 1994 and has since become one of the most respected wine professionals in the country. Fran will be our dinner host and guide us through this amazing set of wines.

Chef Abgaryan, 71Above

Chef Abgaryan, a native Angeleno, was formally trained at Le Cordon Bleu, mentoring at the iconic André Soltner restaurant, Lutèce. LA Weekly’s restaurant critic Besha Rodell remarked, “Abgaryan’s food is composed above all else — chef focuses as much on visual beauty as on taste.” In 2015, Chef Abgaryan joined forces with Emil Eyvazoff to debut a new, world-class dining destination on the 71st floor of the US Bank Tower.

wineLA is about enhancing the wine culture of Los Angeles. To do so, wine must be in rhythm with fashion, music, food and other beverages. It must take advantage of the geography, the architecture and the centers of interest. Los Angeles is a giant playground with an amazing array of venues, spaces, wine bars, restaurants, beaches, roof tops, gardens, and magical views. We want to be a part of the LA lifestyle, the wine lifestyle, and celebrate the people, the place and the passion.

wineLA will promote significant events, occasional classes, and tastings of merit. This is phase two of what we started 20 years ago at LearnAboutWine.com - America’s first wine education website and first in wine event creation. LearnAboutWine will now evolve onto a digital platform; the transformation will take some time; so we will slowly rebrand our event efforts onto wineLA, reduce the number of activities we focus on, and elevate our efforts to focus on the next big thing… Doing what is best for the wine industry and the communities we serve. Edicts: innovate, evolve and excite.

We thank you for joining our newsletter, we will be sending fewer emails and packing them with amazing content. We want to be your wine content provider and would love to hear about your favorite places, your music, your locations - we want to be under the influence of what ignites your passion for Los Angeles.
